Document Details : Title: Dmitri Cantemir et Grigor Gapasak'alean, éminents théoriciens de la musique de l'Empire Ottoman Author(s): AREVSHATYAN, Anna S. Journal: Revue des Études Arméniennes Volume: 42 Date: 2023-2024 Pages: 227-239 DOI: 10.2143/REA.42.0.3293646 Abstract : At the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, the oral tradition of Armenian religious and secular music continued to weaken. Medieval neumes (xaz) remained indecipherable. The main problem facing the great Armenian performers and theorists of the time was that of notation. This article traces the career and scientific work of two of them, Dmitri Cantemir and Grigor Gapasak’alean, who made the most remarkable contribution to the development of the Armenian musical theories. |
