Document Details : Title: Sporen van Hermes Trismegistus in de vroege achttiende eeuw Author(s): VAN LAMOEN, Frank Journal: Spiegel der Letteren Volume: 46 Issue: 3-4 Date: 2004 Pages: 327-340 DOI: 10.2143/SDL.46.3.2004781 Abstract : This article considers Das Platonisch-Hermetische Christenthum (1690-1691) by the Lutheran Ehregott Daniel Colberg with reference to various aspects of the Dutch context. In the absence of a state church, there existed a relatively tolerant atmosphere in the Republic with regard to the several sects. The work of Willem van Swaanenburg (1679-1728) is an expression of this ‘Platonic-Hermetic Christianity’, which is professed within the accepted confines of the orthodoxy. |
