It dealt with the Third Order of St Francis in the historical diocese of Utrecht (comprising a large part of the present-day Netherlands). The convents of the Third Order, mostly originating in the movement known as the Modern Devotion, were very numerous. They were united in the so-called Chapter of Utrecht. In this conference, a recently formed research group at the Vrije Universiteit (Amsterdam) presented itself, as well as some other researchers whose work is associated more or less closely with the Vrije Universiteit group. The seven contributions to the conference are published in this volume. |
