Document Details : Title: The Problem of Prejudice in Interreligious Teaching about Islam Author(s): VAN WIELE, Jan Journal: Studies in Interreligious Dialogue Volume: 10 Issue: 1 Date: 2000 Pages: 96-116 DOI: 10.2143/SID.10.1.519060 Abstract : In the field of theology and religious studies, rather few studies have been published with regard to research on prejudice in interreligious and multicultural education concerning Islam, although there has been a catch-up movement since the eighties. Nevertheless, in most of these studies neither the theory nor the practice of the research on prejudice in connection with Islam has done so with any depth. Therefore the problem of prejudice in interreligious teaching about Islam is reflected upon in a more systematic way in the article. More specifically, the author goes more deeply into the most important expressions of prejudice applied to Islam in interreligious teaching. First the theoretical aspects of prejudice are discussed. Then the theory is immediately substantiated by means of examples in research practice which are further clarified by means of relevant scientific literature. |
