Abstract :

Publication of two new «letters to the god Thot» writen on linen in Early Demotic, probably from Hermopolis (BM 73784 and 73786). The first document concerns the livelihood of the holy Ibis and, as a consequence, that of his servant Horwahibre whose claims and rights have been violated by a certain Nekhtkhenserou. The details are not too clear but it is astonishing to see that at a given point of the text the author does not address himself anymore to Thot as he has done hitherto but to the holy Ibis by inviting him to go to the god as a mediator. In the other document, the unnamed sender asks Thot for protection against the arrogance of Wahibremen who — apparently in collaboration with a woman (his wife? his daughter?) — has refused to give back to the petitioner an unspecified amount of wheat and emmer.
