Document Details : Title: Khotanese bijs- and a Quotation from the Vīradattaparipṛcchā in the Book of Zambasta Author(s): MAGGI, Mauro Journal: Studia Iranica Volume: 47 Issue: 2 Date: 2018 Pages: 201-214 DOI: 10.2143/SI.47.2.3286513 Abstract : Late Khotanese has the verbs ¹bijs- ‘to pour’ < Iranian *u̯ai̯ǰ- ‘to shake, swing’ and ²bījs- ‘to fit in’ (intransitive) < Iranian *u̯i̯ač- ‘to contain’. The article reinterprets three passages in two Buddhist works and shows that the second verb also occurs in Old Khotanese and was originally spelled ²bijs-. The reanalysis of bijsīndä ‘they fit in’ in Book of Zambasta 2.186 is confirmed by indentification of the verse as a quotation from the Vīradattaparipr̥cchā; biśtä ‘it fits in’ in Book of Zambasta 22.110 derives regularly from *u̯i̯ač- and, thus, belongs to ²bijs-, not to ¹bijs- < *u̯ai̯ǰ-, which would give *biśdä; and bäjsäte śtä in the figurative sense ‘has been absorbed in’ in Ratnakūṭa 142.1 corresponds to the Sanskrit original. Le khotanais tardif a les verbes ¹bijs- ‘verser’ < iranien *u̯ai̯ǰ- ‘secouer, agiter’ et ²bījs- ‘rentrer (dans)’ (intransitif) < iranien *u̯i̯ač- ‘contenir’. L’article interprète d’une nouvelle façon trois passages de deux oeuvres bouddhiques et montre que le deuxième verbe existe également en vieux-khotanais et qu’il était à l’origine orthographié bijs-. La nouvelle analyse de bijsīndä ‘elles rentrent’ dans Livre de Zambasta 2.186 est confirmée par l’identification du vers en tant que citation de la Vīradattaparipr̥cchā; biśtä ‘cela rentre’ dans Livre de Zambasta 22.110 dérive régulièrement de *u̯i̯ač- et appartient donc à ²bijs- et non à ¹bijs- < *u̯ai̯ǰ-, ce qui donnerait *biśdä; et bäjsäte śtä au sens figuré ‘s’est absorbé’ dans Ratnakūṭa 142.1 correspond à l’original en sanskrit. |
