Afin d’écarter certaines difficultés inhérentes au schématisme des concepts numériques chez Kant, nous nous efforçons ici de démontrer et d’analyser le rôle crucial que joue le caractère (ou le signe linguistique désignant un concept) dans la distinction kantienne entre le concept et son schème, ainsi que d’éclairer et de préciser les rôles respectifs joués par les deux modes de construction, ostensif et caractéristique, dans la production de l’image d’un concept numérique déterminé. In Kant’s transcendental philosophy the schematic or intuitive presentation of the concept of numbers rests on two elements that the commentators often find difficult to reconcile: a homogeneous intuitive manifold and a symbolic or characteristic construction. In order to avoid certain difficulties inherent in the schematism of numerical concepts in Kant, we strive here to demonstrate and to analyse the crucial role played by the character (or the linguistic sign designating a concept) in Kant’s distinction between a concept and its schema, and also to clarify and define the respective roles played by the two modes of construction, ostensive and characteristic, in the production of the image of a given numerical concept. |
