The Shaft Grave period and the early Mycenaean phases clearly demonstrate the strong indebtedness of Mycenaean iconography to the artistic tradition of Neopalatial Crete. Although this conservative trend can be continuously observed in the arts of the Mycenaean palatial periods, several new tendencies can be detected as well. By the Post-Palatial period, Mycenaean iconography was orientated to new directions and even foreshadowed the warrior and funeral iconography of Geometric Greece. |
