Abstract :
The purpose of this article is to introduce counter-examples both to McMahan’s Asymmetry (1981), and to his proposed solution to the Asymmetry, the Weak Asymmetry (2009). These counter-examples involve cases in which there is no-best action for an agent to perform, because of the availability of an infinite number of increasingly better actions. Consequently, one might employ these counter-examples to argue against the Asymmetry from the possibility of such cases, or against the possibility of such cases from the Asymmetry.
