Title: Latin American Liberation Theology as a Decolonial Project?
Subtitle: Considering the Theological Approaches of Clodovis Boff and Ignacio Ellacuría
Author(s): DREXLER-DREIS, Joseph

Although decolonial theorists doubt that liberation theologians have escaped Eurocentered knowledge frameworks, Ignacio Ellacuría has developed a theological approach that moves beyond Eurocentric criteria by uncovering the world of the poor as a formal object of theology and as the primary locus from which to speak about God. Ellacuría resists a tendency to develop an epistemology of liberation theology in reference to the criteria of theology as a discipline, as Clodovis Boff’s theological method does, and instead articulates a theological approach in light of the human experience of the encounter with God.
