Journal: ARAM Periodical Volume: 22 Date: 2010 Pages: 15-29 DOI: 10.2143/ARAM.22.0.2131030 Abstract : This study investigates a specific story in the Mandaean Right Ginza 6 in order to detect connections to late antiquity ascent literature, especially in Judaism. The debate concerns the final authoritative source of wisdom: is it found in books, or in the heavens? I pay attention to the Enoch traditions, and issue a call to begin relating the Mandaean ascent genre to the Enoch literature. At the end, I deal with the views of two specific scholars, John C. Reeves and Annette Y. Reed, as useful for a widened scope in Mandaean studies. |
