Having said that however there has been very limited study on the avârizhâne registers and their values for demographic research. In this paper I shall try to answer the following questions: How can the figures given in these registers be interpreted in this historical context? What do they really represent? And, what do they indicate? Can avârizhâne registers be safely employed to aid studying the changes in historical demography of the Ottoman Empire in the 17th-Century? Les développements historiques à l’échelle de l’empire, au début de la période moderne, sont depuis longtemps d’intéressants sujets de discussion chez les historiens et des tentatives diverses ont été faites pour expliquer à la fois la nature et les causes des événements survenus dans l’Empire ottoman au tournant du XVIIe siècle. Il y a cependant eu très peu d’études sur les registres d’avârizhâne et leur intérêt pour la recherche en démographie. Dans cet article, l’auteur tente de répondre aux questions suivantes: comment les chiffres donnés dans ces registres peuvent-ils être interprétés dans leur contexte historique? Que représentent-ils vraiment? Et qu’indiquent-ils? Les registres d’avârizhâne peuvent-ils être employés avec certitude pour contribuer à l’étude des changements démographiques de l’Empire ottoman au XVIIe siècle? |
