It assesses his role and influence at the Second Vatican Council and provides unique insights into his character and personality. The article documents Congar’s principal interests at the Council and records his sometimes belligerent responses to bishops, curial staff and fellow theologians. It points to the importance of the Diary as a source for the history of the Second Vatican Council and of Roman Catholic ecclesiology in the twentieth century. |
