Abstract :
Probably the most severe crisis to affect Roman Catholic theology in general and moral theology in particular in the course of the twentieth century was participated by what I have come to refer to as the 'Humanae vitae event.' In 1968, Pope Paul VI promulgated an encyclical letter dealing with the controversial question of the 'transmission of human life,' or more specifically, the question of the moral acceptability or unacceptability of using so-called artificial methods of regulating fertility, what was more popularly know as contraception.
