Document Details : Title: Shu'ba b. al-Ḥajjāj (d. 160/776) and his Position Among the Traditionists of Baṣra Author(s): JUYNBOLL, G.H.A. Journal: Le Muséon Volume: 111 Issue: 1-2 Date: 1998 Pages: 187-226 DOI: 10.2143/MUS.111.1.525708 Abstract : The man who is the subject of this paper occupies a foremost position among the most famous Ìadith collectors of Baṣra, and it is with his ḥadīth that this study is mostly concerned. The references in this paper are all centred in Yūsuf b. ?Abd ar-Raḥmān al-Mizzī's Tuḥfat al-ashrāf bi-ma'rifat al-aṭrāf. For more on this author, who died in 742/1341, see my article on him in EI 2. Furthermore, for the isnād-analytical remarks and digressions presented in this paper use will be made of some technical terms introduced in several studies on a newly developed methodology in isnād analysis, which I published in some papers. For terms such as isnād bundle, common link (cl), partial common link (pcl), seeming common link (scl), single strand (ss) peopled by fulāns, matn cluster (mc), ‘spiders', ‘diving' strands etc, I refer the reader to those papers and for once I will refrain from repeating the same introductory remarks clarifying the methods employed. |
