Abstract :
The events creating the Persian Achaemenid empire by Cyrus the Great upon the foundations of the Median realm of Astyages and his father Cyaxares, are described in the famous Behistun text that was engraved in three different languages (Elamite; Akkadian; Old Persian) on a rocky surface in West IrĂ¢n, about 125 kilometres southwest of the old Median capital of Ecbatana, modern Hamadan. This article describes the contents of the inscription.
