This special issue follows a workshop held in 2019 at the University of Bologna on the same topic. In this introduction we explain the origin of the expression ‘philosophy of notation’; we give a preliminary, generic characterization of its meaning; and we provide an overview of the papers contained in this issue and the contribution each makes to the philosophy of logical notation. |
