Taking its departure from theological ethics and the human sciences, it examines how AL, without changing the Church’s norms, interprets and changes practices to open paths of humanization. First, it examines the method by which the exhortation should be read to be a source of inspiration for pastoral ministry. It then examines the accompaniment promoted by AL, describing how it rests in encounter with the other and in dialogue. The article then turns to pastoral needs. It highlights the need for the respect of conscience and shows that discernment needs to be approached through a dialogue between the desires of the persons involved and the openness to grace. Only in this way can discernment result in judgments that are simultaneously just and merciful. This process requires ministers who are well formed such that those who are accompanied can be led to integration in the Church’s life without feeling that their own needs and desires have been overlooked or ignored. The article concludes by situating the perspective on pastoral ministry within the framework of the proclamation of the Gospel of the family. It should be a participative and collaborative endeavor that sees itself as a school of love engaged in a long-term journey, not seeking short-term solutions. |
