Document Details : Title: Werkelijkheid, afbeeldingstheorie en betekenis Author(s): DROSTE, Flip G. Journal: Leuvense Bijdragen - Leuven Contributions in Linguistics and Philology Volume: 101 Date: 2017 Pages: 33-41 DOI: 10.2143/LB.101.0.3194372 Abstract : It has become quiet around Ludwig Wittgenstein. After the surge of admiration in England in the first half of the 20th century and on the Continent in the second half, a kind of estrangement has revealed itself. Is it his ideas that have become obsolete, are we no longer impressed by his vehemently professed obscurity or is it the progress of logical and mathematical research that has refuted the foundation of his logical theory? One aspect of his work still seems to be of interest: the picture-theory of the first propositions in the Tractatus. This implies that the State of affairs in the world is fundamental for the structure of the proposition on the level of logic and language. It is this picture-theory and its possible role in language-use that we will discuss here. |
