Document Details : Title: La polychromie de l'ancienne infirmerie d'Ourscamp (Oise) Author(s): VICTOIR, GĂ©raldine Journal: Tijdschrift voor Interieurgeschiedenis en Design Volume: 38 Date: 2012-2013 Pages: 29-49 DOI: 10.2143/GBI.38.0.3139354 Abstract : The infirmary of the Cistercian abbey of Ourscamp (Oise) retains an early thirteenth-century polychromy exceptionally well preserved, even though restored in the nineteenth century. Mainly composed of white masonry patterns and a number of vegetal and geometrical motifs painted in white and red, this scheme is a major example of the northern-France architectural polychromy. Moreover, it illustrates how the Cistercian taste could conciliate the latest fashion in the field of decoration and the requirements of sobriety dictated by the Cistercian legislation. |
