Abstract :
This paper discusses the Dialogos approach to practical philosophy as a pedagogical approach in education to develop skills needed to engage in intercultural and interfaith dialogue in the public sphere. We analyze empirical material from the first two dialogues in a series of ten Dialogos dialogues facilitated by Guro Hansen Helskog in a Norwegian upper secondary school context, in light of theories of deliberative democracy (Rawls and Habermas), multiculturalism (Parekh and Modood) and Black feminism (Collins). Also drawing on Christian Stokke´s empirical research on religious contributions in the Norwegian public sphere, we suggest that religious citizens integrate liberal and religious expressions in a way that goes beyond the rationalist assumptions of Rawls and Habermas, and suggest that a dialogical, rather than deliberative, model of the public sphere is better suited for today’s post-secular society.
