Document Details : Title: Denken over de autobiografie Subtitle: Via theorie naar pragmatiek Author(s): VAN OERS, Davy Journal: Spiegel der Letteren Volume: 46 Issue: 2 Date: 2004 Pages: 161-180 DOI: 10.2143/SDL.46.2.630009 Abstract : In spite of the great interest there is in autobiography and the unstoppable success it has with the general public, it still proves rather hard to situate autobiography within the system of literary genres. Since the Seventies, the critical debate about this subject has really taken off, initially in the Anglo-Saxon countries and in France. Consensus on concepts such as definition, genre, identity or fiction was only attained with difficulty, if it was reached at all. The deadlock was not overcome until a deductive research model was abandoned in favor of a clearly anti-dogmatic model. Yet the isolated studies of form and content also proved inadequate to do justice to the historical heterogeneity of autobiography. Now, the challenge is to textually analyze how mutual interactions regarding form and content achieve confirmation of a close entanglement of autobiography and autofiction. |
