This was the view that Zahn cherished on the basis of the third quotation of Ephraem, and in which he was followed by other scholars. The first quotation of Ephraem, which we now know from the newly discovered Syriac text, makes it once and for all clear that Ephraem's Syriac Diatessaron text contained the reading “and truth and grace”, with the inversion. But what was the cause of this inversion? |
