Document Details : Title: Matter for Heaven Subtitle: Blondel, Christ and Creation Author(s): SULLIVAN, J.W. Journal: Ephemerides Theologicae Lovanienses Volume: 64 Issue: 1 Date: April 1988 Pages: 60-83 DOI: 10.2143/ETL.64.1.556373 Abstract : Fresh signs of interest in the science and religion debate, which is by no means dying out, provide a new stimulus to religious reflection and, once again affirm the reasonableness of religious, and in particular of Christian, belief. In The Battle for the Soul Keith Ward shows how the Christian perspective, far from being discredited, is both adequate and indeed necessary if we are to do justice to the evidence supplied by all the sciences, including our personal and collective experience, and make sense of it. He makes clear how self-destructive are rge reductionist attempts to explain away higher human developments in terms of lower physical laws. Rather than trying to explain soul away by attending only to its initial stages of growth we shall understand matter only in terms of its end or goal, its fullest realisation. |
