Document Details : Title: Gospel Issues in the Passion Narratives Subtitle: Critical Note on a New Commentary Author(s): NEIRYNCK, F. Journal: Ephemerides Theologicae Lovanienses Volume: 70 Issue: 4 Date: December 1994 Pages: 406-416 DOI: 10.2143/ETL.70.4.556071 Abstract : The title of this note is taken from the Introduction to R.E. Brown’s The Death of the Messiah, § 2: “General Gospel Issues Pertinent to the Passion Narratives”1. Raymond E. Brown is an influential New Testament scholar and “A Commentary on the Passion Narratives in the Four Gospels” is one of the major publications in 1994 in the field of Gospel studies. In this commentary “From Gethsemane to the Grave” (first subtitle) he decided to work through the passion “horizontally”, studying each episode in all four Gospels simultaneously. He calls it a “controversial decision”. |
