Document Details : Title: The Church Knowing and Acting Subtitle: The Relationship between Theology and Canon Law Author(s): WIJLENS, Myriam Journal: Louvain Studies Volume: 20 Issue: 1 Date: spring 1995 Pages: 21-40 DOI: 10.2143/LS.20.1.556003 Abstract : Faith seeking action, fidens quaerens actionem: this is how I like to describe the legal life of the church. This description should be seen as parallel to Saint Anselm's well known definition of theology: 'faith seeking understanding' fides quaerens intellectum. The main question of this presentation is: how do theology and canon law relate to each other? To answer it, I wish to focus on the organic link between theology and canon law in order to understand what canon lawyers are doing when they turn to theological sources. I could also formulate it differently: how should canon lawyers understand their task in relation to theological insights? |
