Journal: Le Muséon Volume: 108 Issue: 1-2 Date: 1995 Pages: 49-67 DOI: 10.2143/MUS.108.1.525838 Abstract : In a previous article, I tried to give an analysis of the Syriac version (Psh) to the Book of Chronicles (Chr) in order to try and elucidate what might have been its source or sources, Jewish or Christian, for this extremely idiosyncratic translation. I was able to show that there are interpretative elements which are certainly Jewish, others which have a 'Jewish flavour' to them but are untraceable in extant ancient Jewish texts (Talmud, Midrash, Targum, etc.) and other elements which are utterly uncharacteristic of Jewish exegesis, without however being typically Christian. In this study, I shall use another angle of attack in order to attempt to understand Psh Chr better. |
