Document Details : Title: Opuscula of Saint Macarius in the Escorial Library (Ms. Graec. Y.III.2) Author(s): MOROCHO GAYO, G. , NIETO IBÁÑEZ, J.-M. Journal: Le Muséon Volume: 108 Issue: 3-4 Date: 1995 Pages: 335-341 DOI: 10.2143/MUS.108.3.525832 Abstract : The tradition concerning the personality of, and works attributed to, Saint Macarius is truly muddled, and a number of questions have yet to be settled in a convincing way by modern criticism. The corpus of spiritual writings which has come down to us under the name and authority of Saint Macarius the Egyptian occurs in four collections of manuscripts, which probably originated and took shape in the monastery of Mount Athos and in tenth and eleventh century Byzantium. |
