Document Details : Title: Onomastics and Linguistics Author(s): BAKKEN, Kristin Journal: Onoma Volume: 37 Date: 2002 Pages: 21-46 DOI: 10.2143/ONO.37.0.519182 Abstract : The author sets out to outline some research paths that have been explored by Scandinavian onomasticians interested in the linguistics aspects of names. She pays special attention to research that examines various linguistic traits of the onomasticon from a comparative point of view, i.e. conscious efforts to identify the names' specific characteristics viewed in the light at the language system at large. The paper includes sections on Scandinavian research into name phonology, name morphology (inflection, derivation and word-formation), name syntax and name semantics. She lets representative examples illustrate various approaches to these topics: the examples are chosen to let different individuals and nationalities represent Scandinavian onomastics in this context. |
