Document Details : Title: 'Serving Up His Grandmother In Spicy Sauce' Subtitle: Conflicting Views on Jewish Literature in Nineteenth-Century Denmark Author(s): SCHWARZ, J. Journal: Studia Rosenthaliana Volume: 36 Date: 2002-2003 Pages: 197-209 DOI: 10.2143/SR.36.0.504922 Abstract : Two conflicting views on Jewish literature in nineteenth century Denmark adressed some of the points that still, to a large extent, define the current debate about Jewish literature. The main issue is the identity of a work as Jewish or not if it's written in a non-Jewish language. One dispute handles on Meir Aron Goldschmidt, who according to some authors exclude his Jewish background from his literature, but still Jewish elements played a seminal role. Others classify him within the Jewish literature. |
