Document Details : Title: Constantijn Huygens' Hofwijck (1653) als uitdrukking van een persoonlijke visie Author(s): WEISGERBER, Jean Journal: Spiegel der Letteren Volume: 43 Issue: 1 Date: 2001 Pages: 32-47 DOI: 10.2143/SDL.43.1.402 Abstract : Huygens’s country house poem Hofwijck (1653) testifies to the influence of classical literature (notably clichés inspired by Horace), Mannerism, and more especially, contemporary science. The poet’s conception of garden architecture as well as the methodical arrangement and the accuracy of the text invites comparison with Palissy’s theories, Descartes’s Discours de la Méthode and Vitruvius’ De architectura. Huygens’s garden proves to be a typical example of Dutch classicism. |
