Most Belgian authors writing in Dutch chose not to support this revolt, since it separated them from their cultural allies. Prudens van Duyse (1804-1859), a young but promising poet, even went to live in the northern Netherlands. There he actively participated in the pro-Dutch movement against the revolting Belgians and managed to publish his first collection of poems. Due to the strange circumstances in which his departure for the Netherlands took place, his work as a translator, a journalist or a poet has up to now not been the subject of any significant study. |
