Abstract :
This article focuses on the specific meaning of the ἀσεβ- words and their function in the Septuagint of Deuteronomy. It analyses both their inner-contextual relations and the relations of the Greek terms to their Hebrew counterparts to discover how the ἀσεβ-equivalents modify the meaning of the Hebrew words and what new networks of semantic relations appear within the Greek text as a result. A tendency can be traced in the Greek translation whereby the ἀσεβ- words place greater emphasis on the theological dimension of the actions already included in the corresponding Hebrew words, highlighting a certain immediate relationship either directly to God or to an institution endowed with divine authority.
