This article examines nine conceptual, lexical, and theological parallels between Daniel 3 and Revelation 13, revealing the depth of the eschatological conflict between good and evil. This article argues that Daniel 3 is a key passage for the interpretation of the number 666. Numbers sixty and six in Dan 3,1 symbolized the fullness/completeness of Nebuchadnezzar’s kingdom. John used the base of the numbers sixty and six (Dan 3,1) and used the 'increase method', found in Gen 4,24 and Matt 18,22, increasing the number to 666. Thus, the number 666 indicates the attempts of evil forces to build a new spiritual Babylonian kingdom in its fullness/completeness. The number 666 became a symbol of the connection between historical and spiritual Babylon, a sign of the endless sinfulness of the anti-God forces and the global scale of spiritual apostasy. Malgré le consensus des commentateurs sur le lien étroit entre le livre de l’Apocalypse et le livre de Daniel, Daniel 3 reste un arrière-plan qui n’est pas exploré pleinement pour l’interprétation d’Apocalypse 13. Cet article examine neuf parallèles conceptuels, lexicaux et théologiques entre Daniel 3 et Apocalypse 13, révélant la profondeur du conflit eschatologique entre le bien et le mal. Cet article soutient que Daniel 3 est un passage clé pour l’interprétation du nombre 666. En Dn 3,1, les nombres soixante et six symbolisent la plénitude et l’achèvement du royaume de Nabuchodonosor. Jean, reprenant ces nombres, a utilisé la «méthode d’augmentation» que l’on trouve dans Gn 4,24 et Mt 18,22, portant ainsi ce nombre à 666. Ainsi, le nombre 666 représente les tentatives des forces du mal pour construire un nouveau royaume spirituel babylonien dans sa plénitude/complétude. Le nombre 666 est devenu le symbole du lien entre la Babylone historique et la Babylone spirituelle, un signe du péché infini des forces dirigées contre Dieu et de l’ampleur universelle de l’apostasie spirituelle. |
