Enfin, on propose une nouvelle solution pour amender le texte incomplet du v. 16, à savoir quem damna< uere furores >. The present paper analyzes the structure of the proem of Dracontius’ longest epic piece Orestes. There is a dichotomy consisting of two sections, each counting twelve hexameters: these sections of the proem correspond to the two halves of the poem, the first describing the murder of Agamemnon, the second Orestes’ revenge. Finally, a new solution is proposed to emend the mutilated text of v. 16, viz. quem damna< uere furores >. |
