Document Details : Title: Questions actuelles sur la lettre aux Philippiens Subtitle: Propositions critiques Author(s): ALETTI, Jean-Noël Journal: Biblica Volume: 102 Issue: 3 Date: 2021 Pages: 435-446 DOI: 10.2143/BIB.102.3.3289784 Abstract : The study of Paul’s letters increasingly calls for historical and sociological research. Some recent studies have tried to show that one cannot understand the letter to the Philippians if one does not see that Paul takes a stand against the evergetism and clientelism then in vogue. Similarly, with regard to the word πολίτευμα of Phil 3,20, historians think that it is impossible to determine its meaning if one does not take into account its extrabibical use. This article shows that while exegetes must know as much as possible about the social and historical data of the time, they must also and above all implement their own hermeneutic competence. |
