Document Details : Title: Remarks on Leibniz's Interpretation of the Square of Opposition Author(s): MORICONI, Enrico , MARIANI, Mauro Journal: Logique et Analyse Volume: 249 Date: 2020 Pages: 97-109 DOI: 10.2143/LEA.249.0.3288090 Abstract : The critical edition of Generales Inquisitiones, published in 1999 by the Berlin Akademie Verlag in the Vol. A VI 4A of the Sämtliche Schriften und Briefe, promoted new interests in Leibniz’s logic, as witnessed by new translations and many specific and general papers devoted to these topics. Sometimes scholars stressed difficulties and also mistakes involved in the way Leibniz managed to treat 'negation', especially focusing on the questions arising from the interplay between that operator and the use of indefinite letters. We will discuss these difficulties, trying to find a rationale for Leibniz’s 'mistakes' and, on the other hand, to draw some lessons from them. |
