Document Details : Title: Husserl's Formal and Transcendental Logic as Key for a Reading of Merleau-Ponty's Phenomenology of Perception Author(s): ROTUNDO, Alessio Journal: Etudes phénoménologiques - Phenomenological Studies Volume: 4 Date: 2020 Pages: 253-278 DOI: 10.2143/EPH.4.0.3286919 Abstract : In this paper, I show that the shift from a phenomenology of act-intentionality to a phenomenology of 'non-act' or 'operative' intentionality in the Phenomenology of Perception should be read in the light of Husserl’s programmatic critique of experience from Formal and Transcendental Logic. The paper shows in particular that in the Phenomenology of Perception Merleau-Ponty makes explicit Husserl’s recasting of the notion of intentionality as entailing a programmatic shift from a philosophy of reflection to a philosophy of temporalizing constitution. The paper concludes with a demonstration of this claim by following Merleau-Ponty’s meditation on the notion of 'spatial level' as a form of experience in a sense that is representative of his reformulation of the modern notion of the 'transcendental' in philosophy. |
