Document Details : Title: Un biberon sur une fontaine d'époque augustéenne à Palestrina? Author(s): JAEGGI, Sandra Journal: Latomus Volume: 78 Issue: 1 Date: 2019 Pages: 24-67 DOI: 10.2143/LAT.78.1.3286521 Abstract : While scholarship on breastfeeding focuses on the different kinds of milk fed to children (maternal or mercenary, human or animal) and their comparative effects on the child’s health, this article deals with artificial milk feeding. The depiction of an actual ‘feeding-bottle’ is identified thanks to a new interpretation of a scene on the decorative panels of a famous Augustean fountain in Palestrina, commissioned by Verrius Flaccus, an eminent scholar who taught the grandsons of Augustus. |
