Document Details : Title: La Légion de Marie et la vision de l'Église tout entière en état de mission, idée maîtresse de la réflexion et de l'action du cardinal Léon-Joseph Suenens Author(s): KASPRZAK, Artur Antoni Journal: Ephemerides Theologicae Lovanienses Volume: 95 Issue: 1 Date: 2019 Pages: 97-117 DOI: 10.2143/ETL.95.1.3285814 Abstract : This study attempts to show that the apostolic zeal shown by Cardinal Léo-Joseph Suenens to promote the Church in a state of mission, was anchored in the spirituality of the Legion of Mary before the Second Vatican Council. Thanks to this movement founded by Irish layman Frank Duff, Suenens was able to introduce into the Church three particularly important objectives: promoting the active role of the laity in the apostolate, the complementarity between the hierarchy and the laity, and the pentecostal understanding of the Church. But there were also certain limits to this endeavour. A solid theological base for Suenens’ view on the apostolate was missing. In addition, there was the considerable influence of Veronica O’Brien on his involvement in the Legion of Mary, and later on in his disengagement. |
