Document Details : Title: Zum paronomastischen Infinitiv in der syrischen Baruch-Apokalypse (samt einigen Beobachtungen zur Partikel dalmā) Author(s): JUHÁS, Peter Journal: Le Muséon Volume: 131 Issue: 3-4 Date: 2018 Pages: 313-335 DOI: 10.2143/MUS.131.3.3285651 Abstract : This study offers a systematic look on the paronomastic infinitive in the Syriac Apocalypse of Baruch, following recent trends in Biblical Hebrew Studies on the infinitive in question, which emphasize the category of modality in the linguistic discussion. In this study, every instance can be connected to the epistemic modality, mostly to its declarative nuance. Specifically, it means that the paronomastic infinitive usually emphasizes the nuance that is already inherent in its adjacent verbal forms. This may have something to do with the character of the scrutinized work – an apocalypse. However, this work systematically proves that epistemic modality is an applicable category when dealing with the function of the paronomastic infinitive in Classical Syriac. |
