Document Details : Title: New Dimensions in Archaeology Subtitle: 2D and 3D Visualisations of Byzantine Structures and their Contents in the Athenian Agora Author(s): VROOM, Joanita , BOSWINKEL, Yannick Journal: Pharos Volume: 22 Issue: 2 Date: 2016 Pages: 87-114 DOI: 10.2143/PHA.22.2.3285488 Abstract : Recently the American School of Classical Studies at Athens (ASCSA) has put the results, the data and the original field notes from previous excavations in the Athenian Agora online. By granting access to these legacy data, scholars from all over the world can now view and use these data for new research. Access to data from the old excavations allows us to give proper attention to the archaeology of the Byzantine period, which was originally somewhat neglected. In order to study this period at the Athenian Agora three structures were visualised in 2D and 3D, as they were encountered during the time of excavation. This allows us to re-evaluate the data and conclusions from the 1930s excavations, as well as to give proper attention to certain features (such as pithoi) in these Byzantine structures. |
