Document Details : Title: Portretten van Jezus in de evangeliën Subtitle: Een pleidooi voor pluraliteit Author(s): WEREN, Wim Journal: Tijdschrift voor Theologie Volume: 48 Issue: 4 Date: 2008 Pages: 367-375 DOI: 10.2143/TVT.48.4.3203506 Abstract : This article maps out recent developments in the exegetical investigation of Jesus. It starts with the current state of research on the historical Jesus and its relevance for christology. It continues with a discussion of the Jesus book by Joseph Ratzinger/Benedict XVI, in which ‘canonical exegesis’ is used to argue that Johannine christology is also present in the other gospels and that this christology actually goes back to Jesus. In this way, the book narrows the gap between the historical Jesus and the Christ of faith. The third section argues for maintaining the multiplicity of images of Jesus that is the fruit of two relatively recent approaches, narrative-semantic analysis and intertextuality. This welcome multiplicity poses challenges to the further development of christology. The various images of Jesus as a literary figure can be inspirational when they are rounded out with the results of earlier research into the historical Jesus. |
