Document Details : Title: La paléographie des stèles funéraires musulmanes du cimetière al-Ma'lāh (La Mekke) Author(s): SCHNEIDER, Madeleine Journal: Le Muséon Volume: 129 Issue: 1-2 Date: 2016 Pages: 199-230 DOI: 10.2143/MUS.129.1.3154609 Abstract : These pages and tables point out that different types of characters have been used in the epitaphs of al-Ma'lāh’s cemetery. Among them, several were already used during the 2nd c. H. But others like the writing of mīm + ḥā' in the name of the Prophet as well as the hā' + mīm in the invocation Allāhumma have been used during a short period by Makkah’s craftsmen especially Aḥmad b. Isḥāq and Aḥmad b. Qurrah. The lack of any date prevents us from attempting any precise classification. However the fact that in several epitaphs they coexist with special dated letters used during the 3rd c. H. and the beginning of the 4th c. H. allows us to classify them in the same period. |
