Journal: Le Muséon Volume: 114 Issue: 3-4 Date: 2001 Pages: 305-326 DOI: 10.2143/MUS.114.3.312 Abstract : This paper is devoted to the exposition and analysis of an unprecedented development in Medieval Armenian literature: the appearance of three texts about Islam within five years (1392-1397), in a regio of less than 400 kilometers in diameter, between Alt'amar south east of Lake Van and Tat'ew in Siwnik'. For the first time, they cristallized the official attitude of the church towards Islam, over 750 years after its penetration into Armenia and Asia Minor in general. |
