The traditional theological education inculcated the essential Christian ideals through theological disciplines in students without engagement with the multi-religious context of Ghana. The result was the emergence of Christian leadership and practitioners who were more concerned with the development and expansion of their Christian traditions than promoting dialogue among themselves and with other religious traditions. The new, contextualised formation expounds Christian disciplines putting engagement with the multi-religious setting at the forefront of discussions. It also encourages the mounting of non-traditional courses which introduce students to theologies and religions other than their own. The article argues that this paradigm shift in Christian theological formation paves the way for more meaningful and fruitful interreligious dialogue towards peaceful co-existence. |
