Document Details : Title: Kunnen, Zullen, Mogen, Moeten, Willen Author(s): DROSTE, Flip G. Journal: Leuvense Bijdragen - Leuven Contributions in Linguistics and Philology Volume: 98 Date: 2012 Pages: 177-187 DOI: 10.2143/LB.98.0.2990723 Abstract : The verbs kunnen, zullen, mogen, moeten and willen (comparable and partially cognate to English can, shall, may, must and will/want) constitute a closely knit unit whose interrelatedness and opposition can be defined by means of a series of (logical) operators. It is furthermore argued that the contents of the verbs similarly to the nominal concepts in E. Rosch' prototype theory, show an internal structure with a pronounced kernel and more peripheral aspects, the latter of a so-called modal nature. |
