Document Details : Title: Tres veritates Gersonis Subtitle: Het succesverhaal van een tekstpassage Author(s): SCHEPERS, Kees Journal: Ons Geestelijk Erf Volume: 82 Issue: 3 Date: September 2011 Pages: 220-240 DOI: 10.2143/OGE.82.3.2131176 Abstract : Some paragraphs from Gersons commentary on the Decalogue (Miroir de l’âme / De decem praeceptis) came to be known under a title of its own: Tres veritates Gersonis (Drie waarheden van Gerson (‘Three Truths by Gerson’)). In this article I have categorized the multifaceted textual tradition of this small text according to the different genres in which it occurs. This case of the striking success of the Tres veritates makes clear that devotional texts in Late medieval literature tend to get used, recycled and reused in many shapes and forms, both in manuscript and print. Even though the author is mentioned in many manifestations of this text, there are plenty of anonymous versions to show that the prayerlike text could well survive on its own. |
