Document Details : Title: Mauvais sang Subtitle: Descartes en de woede Author(s): BREEUR, Roland Journal: Tijdschrift voor Filosofie Volume: 73 Issue: 3 Date: 2011 Pages: 445-466 DOI: 10.2143/TVF.73.3.2131116 Abstract : Anger, Descartes says, is based on an action which affects us and for which 'we have a desire to avenge ourselves'. It has the same content as indignation, i.e., an aversion that we feel towards those who do some evil. But in the case of anger, we ourselves are the object of harm. In this article I try to explain the relation between this passion and what Descartes calls ‘generosity’, or more broadly, the constant resolution to use my freedom well. |
