Document Details : Title: The Story of Solomon's Palace at Heliopolis Author(s): MINOV, Sergey Journal: Le Muséon Volume: 123 Issue: 1-2 Date: 2010 Pages: 61-89 DOI: 10.2143/MUS.123.1.2052766 Abstract : This article deals with the non-biblical tradition about the palace built by King Solomon in the city of Heliopolis/Baalbek in Syria. The earliest attestation of this legend comes from the three Syriac texts dated by the sixth century – the Chronicle of Pseudo-Zachariah, the Ecclesiastical History by John of Ephesus and the Cave of Treasures. The different versions of this tradition are examined in their relation to each other and an attempt is made to situate it against the background of Pagan-Christian relations in Late Antiquity. |
